LEAP Days August 3 - 7, 2020

Spartanburg School District 6

Dear Parents,

The South Carolina General Assembly has approved funding for five additional days before the start of the new school year for students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade.  All districts in the state of South Carolina will be inviting students to attend school prior to the start of school on August 17, 2020.  These days now will allow teachers to prepare your child for returning to school and to assess where they are in order to best facilitate student learning when the school year begins.

These days will take place the week of August 3-7 and are identified as LEAP (Learn, Evaluate, Analyze, and Prepare) Days.  Your child will be given the opportunity to attend school for one day during the LEAP week, from 9:00-12:30.  Students will be divided into small groups for their day of attendance.  LEAP days are optional and are not part of the regular school calendar, so students are encouraged, but not required to attend.

Students enrolling in the D6 Virtual Academy will receive information on a separate LEAP/orientation day for the week of August 10th.

If you register your child for a LEAP day, school administration will notify you of the day your child may attend.  Guidelines will be followed to maintain social distancing, to the extent possible, and all safety precautions will be followed to help protect your child, faculty, and staff.  Temperature checks will take place as students arrive to the school. Students will wear masks on the bus and during transition times.  If a student does not have a mask, one will be provided. Students and teachers will wear masks in the building when social distancing cannot be maintained. Bus transportation will be available for students if needed, and each child will leave with a boxed lunch.

During the LEAP day, the teachers will focus on conducting the following activities:

  • Welcome Back Activities
  • School Safety Measures and Routines
  • Orientation Details for the New School Year
  • Orientation with Laptops or Chromebooks
  • Social and Emotional Lessons & Screenings
  • Reading and Math Screenings

Parents, if you would like for your child to attend school during one of the LEAP days, you

may register him/her using the link below or by calling the school.  Please make certain your child has already been registered for the 2020-21 school year through InfoSnap prior to signing your child up for a LEAP day. Deadline for registration:  Monday, July 27th at 4:00 p.m.
